Re: Level 35

I'm giving up on this level.  I've tried everything imaginable and this level still does not work for me.  I'm at the same spot as purvislets.

I've tried changing both the f******* and the e******** to everything on my computer and opening it with every program associated with those e********s and I get nothing.  The best I've seen is when I open it in notepad I get a HUGE string of hex characters and it looks the same as if I opened it with a hex editor.  There are no other discernable words in this hex string aside from the obvious m****.***.

I even managed to import this file into Audacity but all that got me was a nasty white noise that nearly blew up my speakers and a complaint from my neighbors.  I know what the answer is to this level due to me searching everything I possibly could and stumbling upon a website that freely gives out the answers.  I was disappointed to find answers rather than actual help on how to solve this level.

Couldn't agree more.  Seems like they will either give you the answer and won't tell you how they got it (more like they didn't get it, they just got the answer from someone else) or you are given clues which can be so cryptic that it makes you more confused.

I don't want answers, but I'm not really good at knowing computer codes/languages or even how it works most of the time.  I do well on the puzzles that don't involve knowing what a file should or shouldn't look like, but ones like these bug the ever-loving crap out of me.  I feel like a failure and have to give in to taking an answer that I don't understand.

Still stuck. I've tried r******* as an *** but the computer does not recognize.

Added Tue Jan  9 06:32:39 2007 :
giving up.  If someone cares to PM me with more clues on this, I'll gladly accept.

edit: I've edited part of your message out because you're on the right track.

Re: Level 35

To Durhai & purvislets....

PM me everything you've done to get to where you're at in this particular level. Be very detailed!
I'm sure i'll be able to put you back on track.

Ps. Stop using other forums! By finding the answers without fully understanding each riddle, you're only prolonging the fact that.........you'll soon be stuck again!

Re: Level 35

I've come this far by doing research and figuring things out on my own but this time I decided to register because I've started swearing at my computer. So far you guys have been a lot of help.

I can't "dig" anymore; what I am supposed to do with b******?  I've meddled so much with everything that everything's "corrupt." Could you please offer another hint?

Re: Level 35

It's always a good idea to keep one clean copy and do all your messing about on duplicates. wink

However, for this level you have to take a step back and look at the big picture.

Re: Level 35

I got it, but I'm still a bit confused. Why does it read "free -", then "no -", and is it supposed to be silent?

kRaZyKiRb: Maybe it was put there to throw you off!.......and no it's not!  wink

Re: Level 35

Wow...do take Phreakymonkey's advice and do things to a copy and not the original.  I spent many days on this and couldn't get it for the life of me and it turns out the file was corrupted.  I was on the right track the entire time but couldn't get the answer due to idiocy.

Re: Level 35

I'm in such desperate need of help!  I have been working on this level for days now, and I still can't get it even with all the hints on this board already.  I have the *** file, and have manipulated it in all the ways I can concieve of.  Granted, this programing/hex stuff is all new to me, so I'm sort of flying blind with it, but I've made it this far.  Could someone please help me?  I see the m****.*** file in there, but what the f do I do with it?

Re: Level 35

All right, I be honest with you guys. I haven't spent more than 3 hours on any one level. But I haven't been doing this alone. My boyfriend and I have done nothing but talk and work on this for the past 2 days. We're at level 35 now. In our impatience and frustration we went to another forum and found the answer. After getting so far, I have reallly come to care more about the process. So here's what I have:

I dug and found the little surprise. I opened it and found another surprise. I typed it in and got nowhere. It doesn't seem to clue in to something else. SO I'm looking for a nudge to get from m****.*** to b******.

Re: Level 35

It's simpler than you might think and very logical. Start from the beginning and pay attention to your process.

Re: Level 35

Right, i've got the file, then *******.****. I've tried everything with this file, every extension possible and I'm still getting nowhere.

I've come to the conclusion that it;s is a red herring and I should be messing with the other code... correct?

Re: Level 35

Ooops, sorry... forgot I wasn't supposed to divulge info like that.

Anyway, I've tried looking at every file in that archive in every different format and it still draws a blank, I'm really not sure waht to make of it now.

Re: Level 35

I've done it before?

Hmm, the only thing I've done apart from change f*** e********* is copy and paste hex code... :S

Still, this 'clue' i have extracted (that I'm still not convinced about) has got to be used somewhere, or has it?
