The last movie that kicked your ass

I've seen some pretty cool movies recently :

Crank :

http://pix.nofrag.com/13/9e/312f84576c6987c07e8561db9319.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0479884/

This one was one hell of a rollercoaster fun flick with some interesting ideas. It's violent, nervous, fun, original and always clear even in the most overcut scenes. It's kinda like a Baz Luhrmann's movie but with some testosterone in it. IMHO it's a cult classic wannabe.
WARNING ! It's Rated R.

Idiocracy :

http://pix.nofrag.com/fc/2f/127d1beae2f958ae29160884ac3c.jpg

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

It's not the movie of the year but the subject is fun : the evolution is a process in which a population inherit traits that are useful to survive, intelligence was one of the most useful thing for the survival of our species, but without predators the genes that pass through are those that come from people who reproduce the most. So, in a near futur, humanity will become dumber... A cryogenized average guy wakes up in this futur and becomes the most intelligent man in a world where the president of the United States of America is a former pron star and where the best picture of the year features a farting ass.
It's a fun flick and probably one of the most realistic anticipation movie ever made wink.

I will be brief for the next movies, because my English isn't really good, but these ones are also (in my opinion) some really good movies :

http://pix.nofrag.com/1a/ad/4cb8172881ed69fd13c1813eeca1.jpg
Little Miss Sunshine : Good acting, touching characters and great soundtrack by devotchka.

http://pix.nofrag.com/e3/06/1d2dfdc2e770a14a9a7a4f7a37c0.jpg
Thank You for Smoking : Clever dialogues, interesting and cynical view of the tobacco industry

http://pix.nofrag.com/e1/ed/5144e99b86dacb5dad26fdd5a1cb.jpg
Reefer Madness : a musical adaptation of an anti-marijuana propaganda film, really funny with some good songs, kinda like Rocky Horror Picture Show with pot, zombies and Jesus. An awesome cult movie.

Now it's your turn !

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

Watching Crank right now, and to be honest, i can't say the first half could be classified as "good". maybe a little of "it's so bad that it's good". i'm at the part where he's standing on the motorcycle half naked and you can see half of his ass. i guess i do want to watch the last half of it now.

ok, it got a lot better when he met his girlfriend and did all that ridiculous sh*t behind her back.

i want to say that i wrote that before the sex scene. lol but the fact you can take what i said to mean the sex scene is pretty funny.

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

Little Miss Sunshine's hilarious! I love the grandpa... It was so nice to see him teaching... ahem.... "dance" moves to the kid. big_smile

The one movie that I went to go see and absolutely hated: Eragon.tongue All the clippings on the commercials are the best parts of the movie. Really, if you've read the books (the books are very hard not to love), then you'll reeeeally hate the movie.
I can understand cutting not-so-important scenes, because the movie would be a gazillion hours long, but changing the scenes that you DO keep, now that's just wrong. x_X

EDIT: Hey that rhymed!

My boyfriend loved it. (He didn't read the books) lol

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

AHHHHHHH!!!yikes
Crank is so damn good!!
As my freind Jeffy would say, I have a man crush on Jason Stathom. He's pretty much the most ridiculous/amazing action star. He's like the crazy kung fu man, but white. I gotta say Crank was just a pure adrenoline rush for the eighty-something minutes it lasted.
hmmm, other movies that kicked ass.....
Apocalypse Now:
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00005YVUD.03.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
now if a movie ever kicked my ass and told me, "you will sh*t your brains out if you even try to think about anything except how much I own you," Apocalypse Now would be the one to do it. Becuase that's pretty much what happened after I saw the movie, I couldn't really think about anything, except how much that movie amazed me.

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

woooh, i totally agry on "thank you for smoking".
this one was a great one ; big laughs in the air.

well, right now, i can't help myself to make a comment on the previous post. although each of us has different tastes and for sure i won't try to convince anyone with my opinion, but : in some way, "Apocalypse now" kicked my ass. just it pushed me in the direction of the remote so i could turn it on fast forward... i have rarely been bored in that extense with a movie, except with another "sacred" movie, being "2001: space odissey".

last movie that kicked my ass ?
hmmm i gotta think, i'll edit this post a bit later.
there will probably be
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/6343/n026sincitydm8.jpg Sin City (although already quite old ; maybe that's not the point with this subject ; anyway, images like i never had seen in a movie, great dialogs and so on ; the bridge between comics and movies is built),

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/547/thefountainposterhd8.jpg The foutain (although a bit boring and i would do a viewer's cut of 45 minutes, there's a lot of poetry in this one),

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5460/babelposterez4.jpg Babel (hard and bitter, makes you expect the worse, be very pessimistic about human nature ; finally beautiful, touching actors)

... and there should be more, but i still didn't go watch "the departed" nor "the last king of scotland".

Yes, Sin City rocked. Done in film noir style, excellent use of selective desaturation, lighting. Pure art! Besides the cast and acting are top notch. Can't wait for the Sin City 2.

Speaking of Sin City 2...300 was awesome. I think I have officially marked anything that has Frank Miller's name on it a must see.

Yes, it's so true! And not only that, but the comics are amazing, and I'm only the verge of buying about $60 more of Frank Miller's comics. I already have 1-6 of the Sin City books and it's all so good!!
And oh man! The 300 was amazing, it also had an amazing use of blue/green screening and desaturation and tons of other effects that gave it an awe inspiring comic book look. http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/42698000/jpg/_42698251_300_yahoo203.jpg

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

I especially like if you compare the Leonides picture from the comic to the movie they did a danm good job of picking a main guy. Ontop of that, besides making his wife less ornamental for the movie, they did a very good job of not changing the story.

Definitely one of my favourite movies. I look forward to Sin City 2 and anything else that he may release.

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

I saw 300 trailer and it didn't really looked like something I would like to see. Anyway it's not going to be shown in my town before a couple of weeks. I still have some time to change my mind.

The last movie I've seen I really liked was Pan's Labyrinth

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

I saw 300 and I think its one of the best epic movies I've ever seen. I like the way they made colors and effects. It really looks like live comic book but so real at the same time. Technically real masterpiece.

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

Crank was really nice, but The Transporter was better.
I saw Pans Labyrinth, too. Very amazing movie.
Hm. 300 will start in Germany on this Thursday. Maybe I'll watch it, dunno.

I marked all the Jet Li movies with a must see.

Finally I'd like to recommend movies from Zhang Yimou (Nameless; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; House of Flying Daggers). No one else has such an ability to use colors.

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

About 300, I saw it a week age and I've found that it was not particularly good. Quite ridiculous for some parts of the movie actually (what is this goat doing here?!?). The fights and most of the visuals of the movie are very nice but the rest....

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

Recently a friend of mine showed me a horror movie called The Audition, which had some extremely nice montages and an especially effective & disorienting sequence near the end and generally freaked me out. However, not quite enough or in quite the correct way to be noted as an ass-kicker. However! (And this is sort of embarassing to admit...) Pirates of the Caribbean III was a blast. Its structure, while much better than the second movie, is a bit strange, and the ending is somewhat unsatisfying and kind of rushed, but that doesn't stop it from being a load of fun. I mean, obviously Pirates of the Caribbean isn't going to be top class film material, but if you suspend any kind of disbelief and ignore the obvious problems and bizarrely placed Odyssey references it's really entertaining.

Re: The last movie that kicked your ass

If you liked crank, watch "London", Jason Statham actually acting. some funny dialogue, its not fully pact with action, nor can it claim an intricate plot but the way its shot makes up for it, especially the use of mirror shots, but its raw and its the sort of thing we can all relate to.

Hmmm, anything with Jason Statham is good enough for me big_smile
But another amazing amazing movie: http://www.worstpreviews.com/images/posters/grindhouse/grindhouse1_large.gif+http://www.toxicshock.tv/news/wp-content/uploads/grind_house_ver8_deathproof.jpg=http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/PYR/NECA00014~Grindhouse-Posters.jpg

Cloverfield. An original way of recording a sci fi horror. Way to go. The fact the atmospheric closing music is called "Roar!" just adds icing to the cake. smile
